Step 1: Search and Reserve your New Company Name
If you already have a new name in mind, conduct a preliminary search and reserve that name for a small fee of RM50. This can be done with the SSM, and the new name will be reserved for a period of 30 days from the date of acceptance.
Step 2: Application for Change of Name
This step involves the actual application for a change of the company name, using the name that was previously reserved. The following documents are needed:
A copy of the application to reserve the new company name
A copy of the approval of the new company name
A special resolution for change of name, signed by the Board of Directors
An application as per Section 27 (1)(4) & Section 28(1) of the Companies Act 2016 to change the company name
Step 3: Approval and Verification
Following the successful submission of all the required documentation, the SSM will issue a notification of change of name within 1 business day. Once payment of the required fee is made, you will be issued a certificate of change of name. From this point, the company is required to display both the old and new name in any company-related documentation for the next 12 months.
Step 5: Updating Business Details
Once your new company name has been approved, you will be provided all the necessary documentation by your Company Secretary to update the following bodies of your company's name change
Employees Provident Fund (EPF)
Social Security Organisation (SOCSO)
Inland Revenue Board/Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (IRB/LHDN)
Banks
