So how do you become a director of a company? Career advice sites say you’ll need to do a lot of studying (preferably at least a degree in business or a related field), and extensive industry experience.
But what about the technicalities of becoming a director? What do you need to do in order to become a director of a company that you have registered?
According to the Companies Act 2016, a director must be:
At least 18 years of age
A natural person
Of sound mind
Ordinarily reside in Malaysia
Not an undischarged bankrupt
Not disqualified
Not have been convicted in or outside of Malaysia of any of the following offences:
Offences related to the promotion, formation or management of a corporation
Crimes involving bribery, fraud or dishonesty
Offences under section 213, 217, 218, 228 or 539
Has not been imprisoned for the above offences in the last 5 years
