At the start of the new year, key amendments to the Employment Act 1955 were implemented.
These amendments include:
Extra protection afforded to workers who earn below RM4,000
Increased maternity leave from 60 days to 98 days
7 days of paternity leave
Maximum working hours shortened from 48hrs to 45hrs
Changes in the calculation of wages for employees who have worked for less than 1 month
Employees are now allowed to apply for flexible working arrangements (and employers must respond within 60 days)
